The name of the school has undergone four changes, From San Francisco State Teachers College, San Francisco State College, California State University, San Francisco Until San Francisco State University.
Because it has a century-old history, some people use "When you walk across SFSU's campus, you walk across the world" to describe it. San Francisco State University is part of the largest four-year public university system in the United States.
The school has more than 100 university departments and more than 50 research departments, offering more than 120 bachelor's degrees and more than 80 master's degrees. Doctorate programs are also offered. The school currently has 3,400 faculty members and more than 29,000 students, who come from 90 countries and regions across the United States and around the world. There are about 2,000 international students, and it is one of the most international campuses in the California State University system.
